Tartan Weaving

Fall 2014
Date: Saturday, November 8, 2014
Time: 9am-1pm

For centuries, plaids woven in particular color arrangements have been associated with Scottish family names, or clans. They are called tartans. There are also tartans that are associated with certain districts, such as Washington State. As a weaver, you can weave any of these tartans. In this class your loom will be set up and ready to go. You will learn how to do the actual weaving, which involves treadling for twill (only four treadles...you can do it!), beating evenly, changing colors, and handling shuttles. At the end of the class, you will have woven a tartan cloth approximately 20 x 20 inches. If you want to weave your family tartan or another special tartan, call Debra Whitehead 663-1391 at least one week before the class.
